The Aerospace Technical Officer of Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA), Silvia de los Santos, attended yesterday at the launch of the Ariane 5 rocket from the European Space Center of Guyana (CSG). The rocket is called ‘Seville’ because the Andalusian capital hold the Presidency of the Community of Ariane Cities in 2019.
In its first mission in 2019, the Ariane 5 launcher called Seville has launched the Saudi Geostationary Satellite 1 / Hellas Sat 4, consisting of two payloads, and GSAT-31 in the name and on behalf of the Indian Space Agency (ISRO).
More than 70 events to boost the Aerospace sector
This is one of the activities planned in the long program of the Seville presidency of the Community of Ariane Cities, composed of more than 70 events: 20 technical, 14 cultural, 27 scientific, 6 training, 3 entrepreneurship and 4 gender equality.
With this participation in the Community of Ariane Cities, Seville works for make the aerospace sector one of the engines of the Andalusian economy, thanks to public and private investment. Madrid and Barcelona are the only Spanish capitals that have held this presidency before.
The aeronautical sector contributes 4.86% to the GDP of Seville. The billing by these companies amounts to 1,800 million euros, with more than 10,000 people employed. The objective is to take advantage of the experience and capabilities of this aeronautical sector to also develop the space area.
