On 25th and 26th January, the Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) has organised a general meeting of the European BIObec project, which promotes education in bioeconomy. The conference, held at the School of Industrial Organization – Business School in Seville and in online format, has been attended by members of this initiative funded with 1.5 million euros by the European public-private consortium Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) under  the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. 

BIObec is made up of 19 entities from 12 European countries and coordinated by the University of Bologna. The aim of this 30-month project is to reduce the gap between the bio-based industry and the education system, promoting the role of the bioeconomy in the face of social challenges. To achieve this, six multi-level Bio-Based Education Centres (BBECs) will be created. These knowledge centres or hubs would connect universities, innovation laboratories, research and development centres and policy makers from different European regions. In addition, at the industrial level, BIObec would help boost job creation and increase local incomes related to the bioeconomy.  

CTA’s role

Regarding CTA’s role within the initiative, the corporation is leading the work package on the replication of the BIObec concept and the Bio-Based Education Centres. CTA consultants María García and Antonio Hurtado have taken part in the general meeting of the project in Seville and have shared with the rest of the members the level of development of the tasks and the planning of future actions.
