The partners of the BIOTRANSFORM circular bioeconomy project met on 12–13 March in Brussels to present the final results of the initiative, which was launched in October 2022 thanks to the support (€2M funding) of the Horizon Europe programme. The meeting agenda, titled ‘BIOTRANSFORM: circular bioeconomy solutions for a sustainable Europe’, was structured in two blocks.
Day 1: last consortium meeting
On 12 March, the last consortium meeting was held at the premises of the partner ACR+. Representatives from each of the nine promoters individually reviewed the status of the work packages, some of which remained unfinalized. Discussions focused mainly on the finalisation of the Assessment package and the corresponding deliverable, as well as on the final touches to the Governing for Transition package. The partners also addressed difficulties encountered during the investigations and reviewed the agenda of the final event.
Day 2: presentation of results at BIOKET 2025

The following day, the project’s closing event took place at the SQUARE Brussels Meeting Centre within the framework of the international BIOKET conference, which brings together thousands of stakeholders from the biomass sector every year.
The event, organised by Q-PLAN and ACR+, brought together policy makers, researchers, industry leaders, and other stakeholders from all over Europe.
At the meeting, the methodology developed by BIOTRANSFORM to assess the utilisation of biomass waste was presented, and the policy and regulatory recommendations designed to drive the transition to the bioeconomy were discussed.
The results of the pilot regions and the fruits of the collaborations with the ROBIN and SUSTRACK project consortia, with whom the promoters have worked closely, were also presented. All the conclusions and results of the project will be available on the BIOTRANSFORM website in July 2025.
CTA, sole Spanish partner
Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía (CTA), the only Spanish partner of the consortium, was represented by Carmen Ronchel, technical manager of the Biotechnology sector, who has teamed up with Marta Macías, María García and Paula Rosa, consultants. CTA’s participation in BIOTRANSFORM once again demonstrates the Foundation’s commitment to supporting initiatives and projects that combine science, innovation and sustainability.
