The University of Cordoba (UCO), Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía (CTA), the Andalusian Energy Agency and Prodetur participate, in collaboration with the Association of Renewable Energy Producers (APPA) and four Portuguese entities, in the European project Biomasstep, which will be funded by the European Commission (EC) within the cross-border cooperation program Interreg Poctep 2014-2020.
The Biomasstep project, with a budget of more than 600,000 euros and a duration of two and a half years, aims to develop and transfer to bioenergy companies an innovative NIR(Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) technology for the rapid and economic analysis of the quality of indigenous biomass in the cross-border area. The project, approved in 2017, is led by the University of Cordoba.
Measurement of biomass quality
Through the characterization by official methodologies of indigenous biomasses, the Biomasstep project aims to carry out the optimization and development of a fast, non-polluting and innovative analytical methodology, based on the application of NIR Technology, for the prediction of quality parameters of these by-products.
In addition, it aims to transfer the tool developed to enhance the innovative capacity of the activities of companies in the sector, so that the results of the research are commercially exploited and generate added value (quality biomass). Finally, the aim is to create a cross-border network between research centers, universities, public administrations and companies to promote the use of quality biomass.
