The CircleMED project (Testing Circular Economy solutions for the green transition of the Mediterranean area), which will extend until the end of 2026 and its funded by the Interreg Euro-MED program with 1.8 million euros, has as its main objective the development of a testing tool to check the validity and effectiveness of the different circular economy initiatives existing in the Mediterranean arc in order to classify them and propose improvements.
Coordinated by the University of Turin, this new European initiative is based on the idea that the transition to a circular economy is a complex process involving fundamental changes in socioeconomic and territorial systems. Although there is a general consensus on the importance of developing this type of program to move towards a more sustainable and green production model, what the seven entities that make up the CircleMED consortium are missing is a systemic and integrated approach that involves all the actors of the so-called quadruple helix (public entities, academia, industry and civil society) in the process.
The project will also promote business structuring and the transfer of knowledge between the different participating regions with the creation of circular economy hubs and participation laboratories.
