The ICT-BIOCHAIN project is financed by the joint initiative BioBased Industries (BBI)under Horizon 2020 to boost the digitization of biomass supply chains.
It will use Andalusia and South East Ireland as pilot regions to develop Digital Innovation Hubs o digital innovation centers that promote the application of ICT, IoT (Internet of Things) and Industry 4.0 to biomass supply chains to make biomass more sustainable and competitively priced, which will help the deployment of the bioeconomy in the European Union.
In addition, the project will build networks with other key regions for the development of the European bioeconomy, providing a roadmap and capacity building to promote the establishment of more digital innovation centers for the biotechnology-based sector in Europe.
The ITC-BIOCHAIN project is directly linked to the Andalusian Regional Government’s commitment to the Circular Bioeconomy Strategy 2030. It is a tool that responds to major challenges such as feeding a growing population, ensuring the supply and fair distribution of food, mitigating the effects of climate change and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
