SMEs related to the biotechnology, agri-food or energy and environment sectors have a great opportunity to grow and get closer to the market through the European SuperBIO project, which aims to boost the European bioeconomy.

Specifically, SuperBIO offers financing of up to 75% of the cost of innovation support services valued at up to €60,000. This is a great opportunity.

CTA is the only Spanish partner participating in the European project Superbio, funded by the European Union’s H2020 program, and is the contact point for accessing this project and its services in Spain. For more information, please contact us.

The objective of the project, with a budget of 3.35 million euros in 30 monthsis to boost and energize the bioeconomy sector in Europe, an emerging business area based on the biotechnological use of renewable organic matter (biomass) as a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to the current economy dependent on fossil resources.

How and what kind of SMEs does SuperBIO help?

SuperBIO helps SMEs related to bioeconomy, i.e. the production and use of renewable biological resources, such as biomass, and their conversion into marketable bioproducts (bioactive ingredients, bioplastics, biofuels, etc.) to accelerate their innovation and market penetration.

It is therefore of interest to any SME involved in biofertilizers, bioactive ingredients, food, nutraceuticals, bioplastics, sustainable detergents and chemicals and any other small or medium-sized company involved in the use of biomass or that wants its activity not to have a negative impact on the environment.

See below for three examples of value chains that SuperBIO has already launched.

What services does SuperBIO offer to SMEs?

The project counts, among its partners, six service providers, which make available to SMEs a combined “set” of 10 different professional innovation services:

  1. Scaling and proof of concept
  2. Industrial property support
  3. Life cycle analysis (carbon footprint)
  4. Techno-economic evaluation
  5. Analysis of raw materials
  6. Market research
  7. Sustainability consulting
  8. Business plans
  9. Access to investors
  10. Preparation of proposals for European programs

SMEs can enjoy a combination of these services valued at up to €60,000, of which the SuperBIO project co-finances up to 75%, while SMEs must pay only the remaining 25%.
