The Energy and Environment Technical Officer, Germán López, and the Business Development Consultant María Nieto have participated in a follow-up meeting of the European EERES4WATER project, organised by the University of Cardiff in Wales. CTA is the coordinator of this European project that began in April 2019 with the aim of optimizing the energy management of the integral water cycle.

The project progress and management during the first 6 months and plans for the next period were discussed in the meeting. The activities carried out during the first semester were analysed being highlighted that foreseen deliverables were adequately completed and that on-going work packages have made a good progress to date.  

In particular, the EERES4WATER consortium has started the activity aimed at developing recommendations to improve public policies related to Energy-Water Nexus and also to work collaboratively in some of the foreseen technical developments.  

In addition, representatives of Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) and Cardiff University met with a Welsh Government’s open innovation team member to know the Open Innovation ecosystem in Wales. This type of action, which is foreseen to be carried out also in some regions of Ireland, Portugal, France and Spain, is expected to contribute to detect available mechanisms and implement appropriate tools to improve the collaboration in technology transfer issues among the stakeholders (Universities, private companies, Research Centers, technology providers, Governmental bodies, etc.) of the Innovation ecosystems of the involved regions. 

EEERES4WATER is co-financed by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme through the European Regional Development Fund and led by CTA. 

The project will enhance the institutional, technical and social framework to promote the direct use of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and energy efficiency in the water cycle by influencing related policies and introduction of new processes and technologies. These improvements will bring the Atlantic Area to the forefront of strategies, policies and utilization of RES and energy efficiency as well as sustainability.  

The project consortium includes 11 organisations from 5 European countries. The Spanish partners are: CTA, University of Seville, CIEMAT-PSA, Canary Islands Institute of Technology (ITC) and Brinergy Tech. Ireland participates with 2 members: University College Cork (UCC) – MaREI and Resolute Marine (RML). From Portugal, ENERAREA and the University of Évora – Chair in Renewable Energy (UEVORA) participate. The partner from the UK is Cardiff University. The French partner is Campus E.S.P.R.I.T. Industries (GIP-Redon).
