CTA, representing the European project ROBIN, of which it is a partner, has coordinated, in collaboration with three other European projects (BIOMODEL4REGIONS, BIOTRANSFORM, and ShapingBIO), the online workshop “BioFUTURE – Knowledge Sharing for Unlocking the Potential of Bioeconomy in Europe from the Regional Policy Perspective.”

The event featured the notable participation of two representatives from the European Commission, who provided key insights into the field of bioeconomy. Sarianne Tikkanen from DG Environment presented the EU policy landscape and the update of the Bioeconomy Strategy, while Tomasz Calikowski from DG Research discussed the role of R&D in the bio-based sector for the green transition and bioeconomy governance.

María García, consultant at CTA, was responsible for moderating the event, which aimed to present the results obtained by the participating projects regarding regional policy advocacy to promote the bioeconomy. The workshop focused on four key priority topics identified during the projects’ implementation with a dedicated and practical approach:

  • Environmental Impact and Resource Efficiency
  • Governance and Policy Alignment
  • Social and Regional Challenges and Public Awareness
  • Cross-Sectoral Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

The workshop, which incorporated interactive dynamics to engage participants and gather their insights and experiences, enabled representatives from other European projects to collect valuable information on actions for identifying, analyzing, designing, and implementing regional policies and governance models that could enhance their own initiatives in these areas.

The event featured thematic sessions addressing key aspects such as governance and policy alignment, social and regional challenges and public awareness, cross-sectoral collaboration, and environmental impact and resource efficiency.
