CTA (Technological Corporation of Andalusia) today held its Board of Trustees, the highest governing body, at its headquarters, both in person and online, which approved the audited accounts for 2023 and the Activities Report for that year, among other points, in addition to reviewing the foundation’s activity during the first half of 2024.
In the first half of 2024, CTA has approved the financing of 12 new business R&D&I projects with 3.6 million euros in incentives, which will mobilize 7.6 million euros in innovation.
In this way, CTA has already exceeded the figure of 800 R&D&I projects financed and 200 million euros granted in incentives throughout its existence.
Specifically, CTA has financed 806 projects with 203 million euros, which have mobilized almost 585 million euros of private investment in innovation. In these projects, 384 research groups from Andalusian universities and public research centers have been subcontracted for more than 102 million euros, which guarantees the University-Business technology transfer.
The new projects approved by CTA in 2024 develop R&D&I in very different areas, with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Circular Economy and Sustainability predominating this year. Among the main lines of innovation of these new projects are, for example, the recovery of materials from photovoltaic panels, the calculation of water footprint to improve sustainability in Andalusian municipalities, a digital twin applied to mobility and road safety, erasable tattoo inks, viability of green hydrogen as an alternative energy for industry, recovery of avocado waste to make compostable plastics or different Artificial Intelligence solutions applied to issues as diverse as water management, sustainable energy generation or medicine.
International business and services
CTA also maintained a growing international activity in the first half of the year as a reference partner in collaborative innovation projects. CTA has already participated in more than 65 international projects, both funded by the EU and multilateral agencies, and has collaborated with more than 500 entities from 45 countries.
In the first half of 2024, new European projects started with CTA participation such as SYMBIO, SOLLAGUA, VERDEinMED, SCAIRA, CircleMED, ZEST, CisWEFE-NEX or BIOINSOUTH, bringing the total number of European initiatives in which CTA participates as a partner to more than 55. These new projects work in areas such as the reduction of textile waste, the application of AI to the Circular Economy, the support to startups in rural areas or the reuse of water in areas with water stress, among others.
In addition, CTA continued to provide new advanced services to support innovation, ranging from advice on strategy or internationalization of R&D&I to Public Procurement of Innovation processes, as well as the search for funding, support for technology-based startups, technology transfer and the preparation of studies and reports, among others.
The Board of Trustees also presented CTA’s 2023 Report, which includes the main milestones and activities of this foundation during the past year.
