SYMBIO Info Day: partners present the project and unveil the dates of the next workshops
  • The webinar brought together 48 participants from Spain, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and Belgium, among other European regions.
  • CTA will be responsible for organising the Spanish edition of the workshop scheuled for 2025.

The SYMBIO Info Day on October 23, 2024, despite the complexity of the topic and the challenge of coordinating a simultaneous online event with several presenters from different countries, proved to be a huge success, bringing together 48 participants from Spain, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and Belgium, among others.

The SYMBIO consortium designed this very first open-to-the-public transnational webinar to provide insights into the project’s progress, offer networking opportunities, and engage participants in meaningful discussions around industrial symbiosis, circularity, bio-based businesses, zero-waste production models, and AI applications, among others. And so it was.

During the nearly forty-minute event, attendees gained a deeper sense of the project’s point of departure, state-of-the-art, objectives, methodology, and expected results. More specifically, part of the programme was devoted to explaining how the artificial intelligence applications (AI) and big data used in the project will help to maximise the value and minimise the climate impact of organic by-products and waste, such as the innovative platform Value Chain Generator, created to leverage data insights as well as advance matchmaking to develop the optimal circular bioeconomy solutions for every region and supply chain involved.

A 2025 bursting with workshops

Just before the Q&A session, the consortium presented the dates and structure of the upcoming two-day technical online workshop, planned to provide regional stakeholders with operational instruments for modelling resilient bio-based businesses and their social, policy, economic, and environmental impacts using free AI tools. CTA, the only Spanish partner in the consortium, will be responsible for organising the Spanish edition. The first session will take place on 19 March, while the second session will be held on 2 April 2025. Both sessions will be also conducted in a webinar format and will include participation from the partners Anteja, LGCA, and CMU.

About SYMBIO

SYMBIO, funded by the Horizon Europe programme with over 1.3 million euros, brings together eight partners from six EU countries (Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, and Belgium) committed to building bio-based business models based on circularity from the design stage and industrial symbiosis. SYMBIO’s solutions enable companies to identify additional circular value from their products and materials and mitigate risks from raw material volatility, pricing, and local material supply. Thanks to industrial symbiosis approaches, more circular solutions are available for companies, ensuring wider diffusion and supporting the implementation of sustainable business practices.
